Chapel Lane

The clients had previously gained planning permission for a two storey extension to create a larger lounge, master bedroom with ensuite shower room to their existing barn conversion.

A huge challenge with this project was access to the property. The house is located down a small single track private road, this meant that materials in and waste out of site had to be removed by hand and using specialist plant, while considering parking, noise and the overall impact on the neighbours. Storage of materials on site was very restricted, therefore materials had to be brought in only as they were required.

This impressive extension is finished externally with an imposing aluminium glazed elevation, with coloured frames that complement the stonework. The new stonework matches in beautifully with the existing barn stonework. The existing gable stonework was sand blasted, then repointed as this became an internal feature wall.
A Juliette balcony has been provided to the aluminium framework.

The overall internal finish shows off the exposed stonework walls, feature oak beams and new stone fireplace with stone hearth.

“ We asked Lilystone to carry out construction of a two storey extension. The property/site location was a two storey barn conversion tucked down a narrow lane in the heart of a village and therefore access to the site was always going to be difficult. The site was also very limited in space so deliveries and storage of materials had to be managed carefully. To compound matters further we lived on site during the build and as such required safe entry/exit at all times. The Lilystone team managed this tricky balancing act with ease. We felt welcome to pass by the works site and indeed ask any questions as the build progressed. The team were always well presented, courteous, on time and always present. We liked working with Lilystone because it was evident that everyone in the team; labourer, office staff and the craftsperson’s delivering the project, all involved, knew exactly where we were up to, what stage we were at and what the next steps would be. This clarity provided us with confidence and a feeling of positivity during what can be a difficult process for a homeowner living on site. The project was completed to a very high standard within the timeframe projected and most importantly to the quoted price. The new extension has transformed the old building as well. We would recommend Lilystone highly to anyone considering an “improve instead of move”. ”
